Delkor Thickener Contract in South America

Delkor has been awarded a significant contract by Barrick for the supply of 14 High Rate Thickeners and Clarifiers on the Pascua Lama Project.

The project, which straddles the Chile / Argentina border, is located in the high Andes at 4,000 m AMSL. This project, being managed by Fluor Techint, required some innovative engineering solutions to cater for the installation and working conditions at high altitude, such as lack of oxygen, freezing temperatures and 160 km/hr winds.

This is the largest value order placed on Delkor South America and includes thickeners from 34 to 62 m in stainless steel and rubber and polyurethane lined mild steel. The project will use the latest Delkor drives and Delkor’s unique feedwell design which allows for high dilution volumes, and efficient mixing and stilling, plus it incorporates a scum recovery system. This feedwell design has a proven track record of reduced flocculant consumption, a factor that is highly important for any high tonnage application.

The Delkor High Rate Thickener is a proven performer in a variety of different applications – including minerals, industrial, chemical, water treatment and waste water industries.

With units of up to 100 m in diameter having been installed, the benefits of the Delkor High Rate Thickener include its low capital cost, smaller footprint, effective use of flocculant and advanced automation.
The Delkor Clarifier is typically used when overflow clarity is a critical issue, and, with water being such a scarce resource in many mining areas, it is widely used to maximize this commodity.

With sizes up to 30 m in diameter, some of the advantages of the Delkor Clarifier include its lightweight but sturdy design, reliability, extensive testwork database, ease of handling changes in process flow and solids content and very low or no flocculant consumption.
