Message from the Executive Chairman
Bateman Engineered Technologies, our equipment supply division, is a recognised market leader in Southern Africa in the supply of equipment, niche technologies and systems for bulk materials handling. The division is also making important inroads into the international market in this sector.
On the minerals processing side, Delkor’s comprehensive range of solid-liquid separation equipment and its global network of offices is an important vehicle for growing our process equipment business internationally.
Recently, we made a number of important changes to further capitalise on the synergies between Bateman Engineered Technologies and Delkor, which we acquired in 2008. These include marketing all of our processing equipment, including those previously marketed as Bateman products, under the Delkor umbrella. This benefits our clients as our full suite of processing equipment now receives the focused technical and marketing support synonymous with the Delkor brand in this sector.
A Delkor business unit located in Johannesburg commenced operations on 01 May this year, focused on
serving the Sub-Saharan African market. Delkor now has offices on all six continents and is well positioned to offer its processing equipment to its global client base from local offices that provide in depth knowledge of the specific needs of the region that they serve. (See page 4.)
Delkor is also celebrating the largest value order to be received by its South American operation. The contract award from Barrick calls for 14 High Rate Thickeners and Clarifiers to be installed at its Pascua Lama Project located high in the Andes, and requiring innovative engineering solutions to cater for high altitude conditions. (See page 5.)
Our commitment to our clients to deliver excellence also extends into our process engineering, technologies and project execution divisions. We recently concluded a furnace rebuild for an international client and received a letter of appreciation from the client thanking our Pyrometallurgical team for delivering a quality project complying to all of the client’s requirements.
The furnace rebuild project involved the use of composite-furnace module (CFM) cooling technology to upgrade the linings of a copper-flash smelter. CFM technology enhances performance of the cooling elements, significantly increasing the life of the linings in these areas and improving the sealing of the furnace against air ingress.
Bateman Engineering recognises that our people are the primary drivers in creating and delivering sustainable value for all our stakeholders. In these dynamic times that we live in, it is essential that we embed a common set of core company values in all our operations, ensuring that we consistently meet our clients’ and stakeholders’ expectations whilst delivering excellence in everything that we do. With this in mind, we embarked on a transformation journey that has resulted in the development of a set of core values which reflect the desired culture of our organisation – Accountability, Customer Focus, Coaching & Mentoring, Continuous Improvement and Teamwork (ACCCT). We believe that these core values will assist significantly in furthering alignment amongst our people in establishing The One Bateman.
To conclude, I would like to congratulate Mike Benfield on his appointment as Chief Financial Officer for the Group, Arnold Matthee on his appointment to the Board of Bateman Engineering and John Riordan on his appointment as Managing Director of our Australia & South-East Asia business unit.
