The Best SHE Rep for the period July 2008 to December 2009 went to Philemon Maduane.

The Best SHE Member of the year, Malcolm Battavan.

The Best SHE Contribution for 2009 went to the first aid team led by Mike Denholm, who performed his role with admirable passion and compassion.

The Best SHE Achievement for 2009 went to the Facilities Department for their outstanding efforts in the prevention of SHE accidents and incidents. Faan Haasbroek, Facilities Manager, accepted the award on behalf of all the team.

At a recent award ceremony, the Sub-Saharan Africa division of Bateman Engineering acknowledged the outstanding contributions of its Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) representatives, SHE personnel and other employees in enhancing the management of SHE on campus and on project sites.

“The elected SHE representatives, fire marshalls, first aiders and members of the SHE committee render a service beyond their normal job description without any financial remuneration. They do it out of their care for the well-being of all employees, while at the same time looking after the interests of the employer,” said Pieter Oosthuizen, the Health, Safety and Environmental Manager for the Sub-Saharan Africa business unit, in his address congratulating the recipients.

John Ferreira, Executive Chairman of Bateman Engineering, presented the awards to the worthy recipients:

  • The Best SHE Rep for the period July 2008 to December 2009: Philemon Maduane.
  • The Best SHE Member of the Year for 2009: Malcolm Battavon.
  • The Best SHE Achievement for 2009: the Facilities Department.
  • The Best SHE Contribution for 2009: the first aid team led by Mike Denholm.
  • Service beyond the Call of Duty for 2010: Elize Albertyn.
  • The Best Project SHE Officer: Richard Webb on the Trekkopje Midi Project, Namibia.
  • The Best Construction Project: the Ambatovy Project team, Madagascar.

Safety Health and Environmental Protection is considered the top priority on this site to promote cleanliness, orderliness, quality and progress. The hands-on approach on this site maintained by Bateman management promotes a safety culture that has readily been accepted by all contractors on site to participate in creating a safe and healthy working environment.

The Foskor Ext 8 Debottlenecking Project celebrated 250,000 injury free man hours on 02 March 2010, since it started with construction on 15 May 2009.
